As part of the ongoing engagements with the local academe, including the Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS) of University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), MIMA was invited for their Industry in the Classroom programme.
Cheryl Rita Kaur, Head of the Centre for Coastal and Marine Environment (CMER) gave an online lecture on “Achieving Sustainable Fisheries Governance in the South China Sea”. The subject was slated for the course programme on Regional Fishery Governance, Law and Policy for the MSc. in Tropical Fisheries.
Faculty members and students from the course programme attended the lecture. Cheryl emphasised the status of fish stocks and management strategies, issues, and challenges faced in the sustainable management of stocks in the South China Sea, as well as suggestions to address some of the common regional and national challenges.
The session was highly interactive, with questions on recent issues in the region as well as perspectives shared by other faculty members and students from the programme.
