MIMA was delighted to welcome students and representatives from the Department of Marine Science and Technology, Kulliyyah of Science, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuantan.
The session was chaired by Dr. Sumathy Permal, Head of the Centre for Maritime Security & Diplomacy, together with Ms. Cheryl Rita, Head of the Centre for Straits of Malacca (SOM), and researchers Ms. Fatin Anis Azzahra and Mr. Nazmi Zuhairi Azmen.
MIMA were especially pleased to host IIUM students—always a joy to see the next generation of maritime talent eager to learn and engage. The discussion explored current maritime affairs, Malaysia’s maritime policies and governance, and the strategic importance of the Straits of Malacca.
Both sides also exchanged ideas on potential collaboration that combines technical insights with policy advisory work.
This engagement reflects MIMA’s pride in nurturing future maritime professionals and our continued commitment to strengthening research, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative partnerships.
