MIMA Research Fellow, Cheryl Rita, was invited as a speaker at the 44th Indo-Pacific Cooperation Study Group, organised by the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Japan. The session was held in a hybrid format and was well attended by leading scholars from Japan and beyond.
Cheryl presented on “Japan–ASEAN Cooperation on the Blue Economy”, alongside Dr. Indra Alverdian from GRIPS, who spoke on “Maritime Security in ASEAN.” The session was moderated by Professor Kunihiko Shinoda of GRIPS.
The platform offered an important opportunity to exchange insights on Indo-Pacific initiatives following recent ASEAN-level summits and ministerial meetings, with a focus on developing policy recommendations for maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Participants engaged in thoughtful dialogue on a broad range of maritime collaboration issues, challenges, and future pathways to strengthen regional cooperation.
This engagement serves as a meaningful and celebratory conclusion to Cheryl Rita’s professional journey in Japan before her return to Malaysia. MIMA proudly recognises her impactful contributions and her role in advancing maritime dialogue in the region.
