MIMA entered into a collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), on “The Development of Maritime Malaysia Analytical Dashboard: Malaysia as a Maritime Nation”.
The project began in December 2020 and is targeted for completion by the end of April 2021. Project coordinator, Cheryl Rita Kaur from the Centre for Coastal and Marine Environment (CMER) will be assisting with the project. Meanwhile, MIMA Research Assistants Muhamad Dom Din and Puteri Arlis Tsharina Jazlan ‘Arif will be involved alongside their UTM counterparts, as a means of research training.
MIMA aims to drive the initiative to showcase Malaysia as a maritime nation based on Big Data, to support detailed information on related sectors and industries that directly and indirectly contribute to national maritime areas.

The project’s signing was conducted by Director-General YBhg. Datuk Dr. Sabirin Ja’afar and YBrs. Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Nazri Kama from UTM. In attendance from UTM were Dr. Mazlan Ali, Dr. Roslina Ibrahim, Dr. Saiful Adli Ismail, and Dr. Nilam Nur Ahmad Ajarif. With expertise from both MIMA and UTM, the outcome of this project will be crucial in supporting the national maritime agenda.
