Dato’ Mohamed Suffian Awang, MIMA Chairman led a courtesy visit to Dato’ Adnan bin Hussain, Director General of Fisheries Malaysia, on 13 May 2025 in Putrajaya.
The main objective of the visit was to reaffirm and strengthen the institutional relationship between MIMA and the DOF, in line with Dato’ Adnan’s role as a member of MIMA’s Board of Directors (BOD).
Accompanying the Chairman were Assoc. Prof. EUR. ING. Ts. Ir. Dr. Syuhaida binti Ismail, Director of Research (DOR) at MIMA; Dr. Muhammad Nur Arif bin Othman, Senior Researcher at the Centre for Coastal and Marine Environment (CMER); and Ms. Juwita Kumala Anak Robin from MIMA’s Corporate Communications Unit.
The discussion covered, among other matters, MIMA’s key roles in Malaysia’s maritime domain and explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration with the DOF. Notable areas of potential cooperation were identified, particularly in research-based policy development, sustainable fisheries management, and the sharing of maritime data and expertise.
Both parties expressed a shared commitment to deepening collaboration, particularly in aligning strategic policies and initiatives that support sustainable marine resource management and national maritime development.
