Dato’ Mohamed Suffian Awang, MIMA Chairman led a courtesy visit to YM Raja Dato’ Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin, Director General of the National Security Council (NSC/MKN), on 28 April 2025 in Putrajaya.
The visit was conducted to reaffirm the institutional linkage between MIMA and the NSC, as YM Raja Dato’ Nurshirwan serves as a member of MIMA’s Board of Directors. Strengthening this relationship is key to fostering inter-agency synergy and supporting the future of Malaysia’s maritime sector through coordinated policy and strategic initiatives.
Accompanying the Chairman were Dr. Sumathy Permal, Senior Fellow and Head of the Centre for Maritime Security and Diplomacy (MSD) at MIMA, and Ms. Juwita Kumala Anak Robin from MIMA’s Corporate Communications Unit. Also present at the meeting was Mr. Khairul Azhar (Nik) Abu Bakar, Director of the Maritime Security and Sovereignty Division at NSC, who also serves as MIMA Alternate Director to YM Raja Dato’ Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin.
The discussion covered, among other matters, MIMA’s key roles in Malaysia’s maritime domain and explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration with the NSC, particularly in the areas of maritime governance, national security, and policy development.
