On 8 October 2025, the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS) and Bait Al-Amanah co-organised the Roundtable Discussion and Policy Paper Launch: “Building Resilience Through Integration: The Future of Malaysia’s Maritime Strategy”, officiated by the Malaysian Minister of Defence, YB Dato’ Seri Haji Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
In his keynote address, the Minister highlighted the importance of a coordinated and forward-looking maritime strategy in response to evolving security challenges.
Dr. Sumathy Permal, Senior Fellow at MIMA’s Centre for Maritime Security and Diplomacy (MSD), served as moderator for the session titled “Rethinking Malaysia’s Maritime Strategy.” The distinguished panel comprised YB Liew Chin Tong, YBhg Tan Sri (Dr.) Zulhelmy Ithnain, Mr. Sahipulhjaiman Sulaiman, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salawati Mat Basir. Also representing MIMA were Ms. Nurismarina and Mr. Haikal Amran as session participants.
MIMA’s participation puts a major focus on advancing Malaysia’s maritime discourse and strengthening the nation’s strategic maritime identity through informed research, policy engagement, and collaboration.
