MIMA at the 1st Melaka International Maritime Economy Conference (MIMEC 2024)

The Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) was proud to co-organise the Melaka International Maritime Economy Conference (MIMEC 2024), held from 4-5 November 2024 at the Swiss-Garden Hotel Melaka. MIMEC 2024, hosted by the Melaka State Government through Institut Tun Perak, had brought together prominent stakeholders in maritime and economic sectors to discuss future-shaping topics for Malaysia and the region.

The conference was officially launched with a keynote address by YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport, who emphasised the critical role of maritime economic development in enhancing Malaysia’s global competitiveness. Following this, YAB Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf bin Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka, delivered an opening address underscoring Melaka’s strategic position and the government’s vision for strengthening the maritime economy as a catalyst for sustainable regional growth.

Esteemed guests included notable figures such as Tun Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Mohd Khalil bin Yaakob and Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr. Noormustafa Kamal Yahya, Executive Chairman of Kuala Linggi International Port (KLIP), among others. Dato’ Mohamed Suffian Awang, Chairman of MIMA was also present to lend his support, marking MIMA’s strong commitment to fostering dialogues in maritime economic development.

MIMA played an active role in the conference sessions. Professor Ts. Dr. Mohamad Rosni Othman, Director General of MIMA, participated as a distinguished panelist, Additionally, Assoc. Prof. EUR. ING. Ts. IR. Dr. Syuhaida Ismail, MIMA Director of Research and Ts. Egbert Adolf Naintin, Centre Head for OLAP contributed as moderators.

MIMA extends its congratulations to all organisers, partners, and participants whose collaborative efforts made MIMEC 2024 a success. MIMA remains dedicated to advancing the maritime economy through thought leadership and fostering partnerships within the industry.
