As part of the Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) working visit to Jakarta, our delegates continued their engagements with a roundtable discussion and academic session at Universitas Tarumanagara (UNTAR) on 20 May 2025. UNTAR is one of the oldest private universities in Indonesia, has excellent reputation in innovation and research across various disciplines.
During the session, Dr. Muhammad Nur Arif Othman and Ms. Mazlinawati Abdul Majid were given the opportunity to introduce MIMA and highlight its mission and key research projects, including Nature based Solutions (NbS), Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and Blue Economy framework. These topics sparked the interest among UNTAR staff for regional partnerships in knowledge sharing, technology exchange and best practices for managing marine and coastal areas.
The session continued with a presentation by Assoc. Prof. EUR. ING. Ts. Ir. Dr. Syuhaida Ismail titled “Publish or Perish.” In her talk, Dr. Syuhaida shared valuable tips on academic writing and publication strategies. She encouraged academic staff not to be discouraged by article rejections, highlighting that rejection is often part of the publication journey.
