On 21 May 2025, MIMA delegates had a round table discussion (RTD) with the International Research Institute for Maritime, Ocean and Fisheries (i-MAR), IPB University located in Bogor, Indonesia. Prof. Dr. Ir. Luky Adrianto, Head of Institution of i-MAR warmly welcomed the MIMA delegates.
The RTD focused on blue port topic, the potential of nature-based solution (NbS) for the maritime sector and future collaboration between MIMA and i-MAR. We agreed to have a webinar series on topics such as blue economy and marine spatial planning (MSP), a fellowship program, collaboration as supervisor for IPB students and a joint publication on book. As a start, MIMA and i-MAR will organize a webinar at the end of June. Besides, a Letter of Intent (LOI) will be signed by both parties in early September to formalise the partnership and strengthen our commitment to joint research and academic sharing.
In the evening, Dr. Muhammad Nur Arif Othman, Senior Researcher of Centre for Marine and Coastal Environment (CMER) was invited to give short lecture to the IPB students and staffs on transforming Malaysia’s port development through NbS for marine biodiversity conservation and land degradation control. Exchange of ideas and sharing of knowledge took place during the lecture, beneficial for both parties in terms of best practice for marine conservation.
