MIMA was honoured to be invited to the 6th IORA Blue Carbon Hub Think Tank Symposium which was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

The three-day programme, which comprised of a two-day symposium and day-field trip, was attended by 32 delegates from IORA Member States, including Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and others. MIMA Researcher, Ms. Fatin Anis Azzahra Kamarudin from the Centre for the Straits of Malacca (SOM) participated in the knowledge-sharing and networking sessions. The symposium highlighted best practices in mangrove and blue carbon ecosystem restoration, while underscoring the importance of linking science, policy, and community actions through expert contributions from across the region.

MIMA’s participation reaffirmed commitment to sustainable ocean governance and to developing actionable strategies that balance ecological restoration with socio-economic benefits. This engagement also reflects MIMA’s active role as an IORA Centre of Excellence (CoE), where the institute continues to engage in regional dialogues, advance policy research, and strengthen cooperation among the IORA Member States.
