At the 6th Symposium on Global Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance (SGMCOG) 2025 in Sanya, China (10–12 December 2025), MIMA’s voice once again resonated beyond borders.
Ms. Cheryl Rita, MIMA Research Fellow and Head of the Centre for Straits of Malacca (SOM), was invited to share MIMA’s perspectives at this prestigious forum, organised by the Huayang Center and the China Ocean Development Foundation (CODF) in collaboration with the National Institute for South China Sea Studies (NISCSS).
Joining the symposium virtually, Cheryl brought the conversation home to one of the world’s most strategic waterways — the Straits of Malacca. Her presentation explored the realities of maritime trade and ocean governance, weaving regional insights into a broader global narrative.
The symposium became a meeting point of ideas — where scholars and practitioners from across the world exchanged perspectives, challenged assumptions, and envisioned stronger multilateral cooperation at sea.
Through moments like these, MIMA continues to shape conversations, bridge regions, and contribute research-driven insights to global maritime and ocean governance.
