To put a highlight on 16th October 2025, The IChemE Oil, Gas, and Energy Transition (OGET) Forum 2025 gathered experts and industry players under the theme “Empowering Change in Maintaining Resilience Towards Energy Transition Goals.”
Representing the Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA), Dr. Muhammad Nur Arif Othman from the Centre for Coastal and Marine Environment (CMER) shared insights on the future of marine fuels. He highlighted that Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) remains one of the most mature alternatives to conventional fuels — with lower carbon emissions that can be further reduced through Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS).
Emerging green fuels such as methanol, hydrogen, and ammonia also show great promise, though more studies are needed to address safety, operational, and infrastructure challenges.
This discussion exemplifies Malaysia’s commitment to balancing energy needs with environmental responsibility.
MIMA continues to advance research, policy insights, and regional collaboration towards a sustainable, low-carbon maritime future.
