6 November 2025

MIMA Research Fellow and Head of the Centre for Straits of Malacca, Cheryl Rita, spoke at the Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI), Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) in Tokyo. This session was part of her engagement as a Visiting Fellow at the Policy Research Institute, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS).

Her presentation covered key topics such as the blue economy, blue carbon initiatives, and cooperation in the Straits of Malacca. The dialogue brought together representatives from OPRI and SPF, both in person and online.

The meeting served as a platform to exchange perspectives on ocean governance, regional maritime developments, and climate change mitigation efforts, while exploring potential areas for collaboration.

Engagements like this with globally renowned maritime organisations strengthen MIMA’s role in advancing evidence-based policy recommendations for sustainable and secure ocean governance.
