𝗠𝗜𝗠𝗔 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
𝟮𝟵–𝟯𝟬 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱
MIMA was invited to commemorate and support the 50th Anniversary Celebration Programme of the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya, held from 29 to 30 April 2025, at the faculty’s premises.
The opening ceremony, held on the first day (29 April 2025), was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Indera Dr. Azfar Mohamad Mustafar, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore. The ceremony was also graced by the attendance of distinguished figures including Emeritus Professor Tengku Dato’ Shamsul Baharin; Professor Datuk Dr. Danny Wong Tze Ken, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya; Professor Dr. Hanafi Hussin; and Associate Professor Dr. S. Thirunaukarasu, Head of Department, Southeast Asian Studies.
Representing MIMA at the opening ceremony were Dr. Sumathy Permal, Senior Fellow and Head of the Centre for Maritime Security and Diplomacy (MSD), and Ms. Juwita Kumala anak Robin, Senior Corporate Communications Officer.
MIMA was also pleased to be among the invited exhibitors for the two-day exhibition programme. Researchers from the Centre for Maritime Security and Diplomacy (MSD), the Centre for Ocean Law and Policy (OLAP), as well as team members from the Publication and Resource Centre Unit (PRCU), actively engaged with visitors and contributed to knowledge-sharing efforts. MIMA publications on Malaysia’s maritime affairs were also showcased and made available for purchase.
MIMA is truly honoured to have contributed to raising awareness of maritime issues during the exhibition and extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Department of Southeast Asian Studies on its 50th anniversary and the successful organisation of the programme. We are grateful for the opportunity to support and share insights on the nation’s maritime interests.
