As part of the Malaysia Blue Economy Blueprint (MBEB) study under the Ministry of Economy Malaysia, a National Workshop was organised to further involve and gather inputs from all the stakeholders including from Sabah and Sarawak. The Workshop was coordinated by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, in cooperation with the MBEB study Sector Leads including MIMA.

A number of priority sectors have been identified including, i.e., Fisheries & Aquaculture, Coastal & Maritime Tourism, Maritime Transport, Marine Biotechnology, Extractive Industries, Renewable Energy, as well as Ocean Ecosystem Services & Health. As one of the Sectors Lead, Ms. Cheryl Rita. MIMA Research Fellow was involved as a Facilitator for the Group focusing on Governance.

The National Workshop aimed to understand the blue economy landscape in Malaysia and identify strategic priority areas for the national blue economy sectors. The forum was attended by more than 100 participants, representing the government, academia, as well as industries. MIMA researchers were also present to provide inputs on relevant areas.

Further work will be undertaken towards completing the MBEB, and MIMA is happy to be part of this important endeavour.
