Job Title: Research Assistant (PROJECT-BASED)

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant (Project-Based) to support research activities under the Centre for Ocean Law and Policy. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in maritime affairs, law, and public policy to gain practical experience in a leading maritime think tank.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research Support
- Assist in conducting literature reviews and background research on maritime law, ocean governance, maritime security, marine environmental protection, and related policy issues.
- Collect, compile, organise, and maintain research materials, reference documents, and relevant information for research projects.
- Assist in reviewing legislation, policy papers, reports, academic publications, and other research materials.
- Support researchers in preparing reports, presentations, briefing notes, and other project deliverables.
2. Project and Administrative Support
- Provide administrative support for research projects and project-related activities.
- Assist in coordinating meetings, workshops, consultations, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
- Assist in tracking timelines, deliverables, and compiling progress reports for project leaders.
- Prepare meeting minutes and maintain project records and documentation.
- Support project monitoring and reporting activities as required.
3. Data and Information Management
- Maintain research databases, project files, and document repositories.
- Assist in data collection, data entry, and information management tasks.
- Support the compilation and organisation of research findings and project information.
4. Publication and Event Support
- Assist in the preparation and formatting of reports, presentations, publications, and communication materials.
- Support the organisation of seminars, workshops, conferences, and outreach programmes.
- Assist in the dissemination of research outputs and project-related materials.
5. Other Duties
- Perform other research and administrative duties as assigned by the Centre Head, Project Leader, or designated supervisor.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB), International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Maritime Studies, Social Sciences, or other related disciplines.
- Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Good command of English and Malay, with strong writing and communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills (Added Advantage)
- Foundational knowledge of maritime affairs, ocean governance, public international law, or policy analysis.
- Familiarity with legal/academic databases and research methodologies.
- Prior internship experience in a legal, research, or public policy environment.
