Position: Researcher for the Centre for Maritime Economics and Industries

Location: Kuala Lumpur

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake comprehensive research on maritime economic trends, policies, and industry practices, including shipping, port operations, maritime trade, and logistics.
  • Gather and analyse quantitative and qualitative data related to maritime economics, including trade volumes, economic impact assessments, and market dynamics.
  • Assess the effectiveness of existing maritime policies and regulations, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct studies to evaluate the economic, social, and environmental impacts of maritime activities and proposed policy changes.
  • Collaborate with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and academic institutions to gather insights and build consensus on policy initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports, policy briefs, and white papers to communicate research findings and policy recommendations to policymakers, industry leaders, and the public.

Requirements:

  • Malaysian applicant.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Economics/ Shipping Economics/ Maritime Business/ Logistics and Transport/ Supply Chain Management/ Economics, International Business/ Finance, or other related fields, with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Bahasa Melayu and English.
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, particularly in analysing economic, trade, maritime, and industry-related issues.
  • Interest in maritime economics, international trade, port and shipping industries, logistics, and global economic developments.
  • Ability to conduct research, analyse data, and prepare reports, policy briefs, presentations, and other research-related materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of data analysis or statistical tools will be an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of current developments and emerging issues affecting the maritime industry, including supply chain resilience, port competitiveness, digitalisation, sustainability, and maritime decarbonisation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research and policy environment.
