Sipadan Island Carrying Capacity Research Trip

The Maritime Institute of Malaysia, MIMA is researching the “Carrying Capacity of Sipadan Island.” In concurrence with the research objectives, the MIMA team led by YBhg. Datuk Dr. Sabirin Ja’afar, Director-General of MIMA visited Sipadan Island from 14 to 17 March 2023.

The journey to Sipadan Island took about 45 minutes by boat from the Semporna Jetty.  The team undertook various research activities, including distributing questionnaires, brochure and conducting interviews with the respondents and Sabah Park’s management staff.

The MIMA Team also visited Bohey Dulang, Mantabuan, and Sibuan Islands to further expand the research activities and get first-hand experience of the tourism activities available on the islands in order to acquire more pertinent data for the aforementioned study.
