UTM’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ts. Dr Abd Latif Saleh officiated the event, which was also attended by MIMA Director-General, Datuk Dr Sabirin Ja’afar, and the Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Informatics Razak, Prof Dr Astuty Amrin.

UTM KL Campus Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ts. Dr Abd Latif Saleh encouraged both parties to continue with similar collaborations.

YBhg. Datuk Dr Sabirin Ja’afar conveyed his gratitude for the successful collaboration between MIMA and UTM towards developing the maritime dashboard.

Assoc. Prof Dr Mohd Nazri Kama led the project with seven researchers from the faculty. The MIMA team was coordinated by Cheryl Rita, Head of the Centre for Coastal and Marine Environment, alongside two research personnel.

The project produced a framework platform for the national maritime analytical dashboard and an outcome report, which will be published soon. Overall, the dashboard categorised major national maritime sectors and industries into five clusters, i.e., Coastal and offshore, Tourism and recreation, Fisheries and aquaculture, Security and enforcement, and Ports and shipping. Furthermore, for each identified cluster, the human resources and employment aspects are specifically highlighted to show “direct” and “indirect” contributions from related sectors. Overall, a total of 150 analytics were created from the analyses of 239 national maritime-related datasets.

This effort is aimed at conducting a comprehensive and holistic assessment in order to make informed policy recommendations and management strategies. The outcomes were shared at the Ministry of Transport’s Mesyuarat Pengurusan Tertinggi Bil. 10/2021, where it was well-received by related agencies.

MIMA will continue to enhance the data sets within the dashboard in close cooperation with related maritime stakeholders and key players.
