Workshop on Restoring Mangrove Ecosystem at State-level

Taiping, Perak
20 February 2020

A workshop on restoring the mangrove ecosystem at the state-level was organised in February, focusing on the Matang Mangrove Forest Management (MMFM). The event was Heriot-Watt University Malaysia and its UK counterpart's collaboration with University Putra Malaysia, University of Nottingham Malaysia, as well as Indonesian counterparts i.e. Institute Technology Bandung and Institute Technology Sepuluh Nopember.

The workshop is in part of a collaborative research initiative entitled, ‘Risks and Solutions to restore coastal mangrove forests for improved ecosystem services and local livelihoods: A comparative study between Malaysia and Indonesia’. The assessment looks into quantifying multiple hazards on mangrove ecosystems through a case study to derive solutions that could help improve livelihood for the local coastal communities while maintaining the mangrove forest’s ecosystem services.

It had provided an avenue for the management entities to exchange experiences, best practices, and ideas related to current and emerging issues associated with MMFM.
