Public Talk at the Ministry of Transport Pavilion during LIMA 2019

Langkawi
29 – 30 March 2019

The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition is a biennial event showcasing the latest in the maritime and aerospace sectors. MIMA has been part of LIMA exhibitions since its 6th edition in 2001 and this year participated under the Ministry of Transport (MoT) Malaysia exhibition pavilion from 26-30 March.

LIMA is an ideal platform for industry stakeholders to engage and expand their networks towards forging new partnerships and business agreements. The MoT also organised public talk sessions to provide information relating to the agencies within its portfolio.

Nurul Ashikin Zakaria a researcher at MIMA presented on the institution’s efforts at addressing marine litter pollution through the application of the Clean Coast Index (CCI). The presentation covered measures to address marine litter using policy and management tools in coastal areas at national and local levels and through effective monitoring and assessment. It also included a brief introduction to MIMA, its role and functions, as well as opportunities offered to graduates.

The public took the opportunity to raise and discuss current issues on marine litter, the banning of drinking straws, as well as the application of the CCI.
