National Meeting on ADMM Cooperative Mechanism: Exploring Cooperation with ADMM-Plus For A Shared and Unified Approach Towards Regional Peace and Stability

The Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) hosted the National Meeting on the ADMM Cooperative Mechanism: Exploring Cooperation with ADMM-Plus for a Shared and Unified Approach Towards Regional Peace and Stability. The event was the first Joint Research collaboration among the Maritime Institute of Malaysia, the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS), and the Centre for Defence and International Security Studies (CDiSS) of the National Defence University of Malaysia.

The ceremony began with speeches from YBhg. Vice Admiral Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ahmad Ramli bin Hj. Mohd Nor (R), Chairman of MIMA; followed by Introductory Notes from YBhg.Lt. Gen. Dato’ Suhaimi bin Hj. Zuki, Chief Executive of MiDAS (represented by YBrs. Cik Siti Salmiah biinti Hj. Dimyati); and YM Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Tengku Mohd bin Tengku Sembok, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) National Defence University of Malaysia (representing the Vice Chancellor). MIMA, MIDAS and UPNM also signed the launch of the project to commemorate the collaboration by the three institutions. This was followed by a brainstorming session that covered the following areas:

  1. Malaysia’s commitment towards the seven Expert Working Groups (EWGs) namely Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, Maritime Security, Military Medicine, Counter-Terrorism, Humanitarian Mine Action, Peacekeeping Operation, and Cyber Security;
  2. Stock-take of ADMM-Plus activities, exploring gaps in the process, directions to take and provide a road map for its role that will accommodate the interests of ASEAN and its Plus members; and
  3. Addressing strategic and new challenges on regional security issues and analysing the role of ADMM in advancing security and strategic directions.
