MTCP 2023: Insights on the Legal Framework for Ocean Governance: Capitalising the UN SDG 14 towards the Maritime Sustainability
21August2023(2:00 PM) - 25August2023(6:00 PM)
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) are even more relevant today than ever before as they aim to transform the systems that undermine well-being and perpetuate vulnerabilities. The global societal and economic impact of COVID-19 outbreak has shown the need to assess, plan, and prepare for potential future changes in line with the new Malaysian MADANI concept by the Prime Minister of Malaysia. These insights have become vital for the management of the ocean community due to the global connectivity and its crucial role in the Earth’s well being and climate system. For more sustainable ocean governance, it is important that legislative and regulatory frameworks are developed in a consistent way and are informed by international and regional legal obligations.
The cooperation between international (e.g. United Nations Convention for the Law of the Sea—UNCLOS) and regional agreements need to be fostered through the use of various discussions and mechanisms. Thus, in light with the new hopes for the sustainability and the urgency on ocean governance, MIMA’s upcoming MTCP 2023 training focusing on the “Insights on the Legal Framework for Ocean Governance: Capitalising the UN SDG 14 towards Maritime Sustainability” will be held from 21st to 25th August 2023 via Zoom online platform. The key areas will be fulfilled through this training course, namely good governance, environment, safety and security, as well as technology.
