The Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) is a policy research institute set up by the Malaysia Government to investigate matters relating to Malaysia’s maritime interests. MIMA is looking for suitable Malaysian citizens to fill the positions of:
Position: Researcher (Centre for Ocean Law and Policy – OLAP)
Location: Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Salary: RM3,000.00
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, initiate and undertake annual research project
- Undertake and lead policy research projects on current maritime issues
- Execute MIMA’s research strategies
- Research: Conduct thorough research in international maritime law areas, including UNCLOS, maritime security, environmental law, and related fields.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage research projects, including planning, execution, and reporting
- Legal Drafting: Experience in legal drafting (added advantage), including preparing policy documents, legal briefs, and other relevant materials.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Malay, with the ability to present complex legal and policy issues.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel as required for research, conferences, and meetings.
- Networking: Good networking skills to engage with stakeholders, including government officials, international organizations, and industry experts.

Requirements:
- Preferably Bachelor’s Degree in Law with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 or equivalent from a recognized university.
- Masters Degree in Law in highly recommended to apply.
- Knowledge or specialization in Maritime Law, Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Admiralty Law, or related fields in an added advantage.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
- Excellent writing skills and fluent in spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia
- Preferably at One (1) year of working experience, particularly related to policy research, shipping, port industry, logistics and maritime transport
- Familiarity with UNCLOS Ocean Governance would be an advantage
