The Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) is a policy research institute set up by the Malaysian Government to investigate matters relating to Malaysia’s maritime interests. MIMA is looking for suitable Malaysian citizens to fill the positions of:
RESEARCH ASSISTANT FOR
THE CENTRE FOR MARITIME ECONOMICS AND INDUSTRIES (MEI)
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Design & optimise data pipelines for various data sources.
- Collect, clean, and manage multi-modal freight data from government agencies, private operators, and open-source platforms.
- Working knowledge of database systems (e.g. SQL, MySQL, or MS Access).
- Build and update freight-related databases with structured documentation.
- Assist with data visualisation, dashboard creation, and reporting.
- Collaborate with team members on the design and implementation of freight data models.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Have hands-on experience in database systems (e.g. SQL, MySQL, or MS Access).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and Power Query.
- Detail-oriented with strong data structuring and cleaning skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
