Industry in the Classroom Guest Lecture

MIMA Head of the Centre for Coastal and Marine Environment (CMER), Cheryl Rita was invited as a Guest Lecturer by the School of Maritime Business and Management of the University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). It was attended by about 150 students from the Bachelor of Management (Maritime) Programme.

In his welcoming remarks Prof Dato’ Dr Saharuddin Abdul Hamid, Dean of the School introduced the initiative for having more integrated industry engagement in the classroom for better understanding and experience sharing.

In her presentation, Cheryl spoke on areas concerning pollution from both land and sea-based sources, the significance of shipping activities in the national context and relevant environmental initiatives, as well as related policies and management strategies. There were a number of questions posed on the various policies and current management aspects by students.

She was then invited to chair a roundtable discussion with the students working on their final year course projects on related areas.

MIMA welcomes this as a positive initiative in contributing towards capacity building for the younger generation that will be anchoring the maritime field in the near future.
