Talk on Industrial Revolution 4.0

MIMA researcher Cdr Ang Chin Hup (R) presented a paper titled “Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0)” at the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency MMEA) Headquarters in Putrajaya.  Its Director of Human Resource, Tuan Ahmad bin Tuan Wil officiated the event on behalf of the Director General of MMEA. The talk was attended by the management and personnel of the enforcement agency.

Cdr Ang talked on IR4.0 at MMEA

In his talk, Cdr Ang introduced the background of IR 4.0 and explained how emerging technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and augmented reality change the way business is done today. He further explained the newly launched national blueprint on IR 4.0 in Malaysia, the Industry4WRD.

On the maritime sector, Cdr Ang highlighted the driving factors such as the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) requirements for Ballast Water Treatment Convention (BWTC), the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and Emission Control Areas (ECAs) that are shaping the industry today. He further explained the latest applications of IR4.0 in the sector including autonomous shipping, automated port and digitalised shipyard. For the MMEA, Cdr Ang urged the agency to undertake the IR4.0 readiness assessment and embrace the emerging technologies.
