The Maritime Institute of Malaysia jointly hosted the above forum with the Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM), and Malaysia Joint Branch of Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA-IMarEST).
Opening Ceremony
The Deputy Minister in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Dr. Ong Kian Ming delivered the keynote address. Welcoming remarks were by the Chairman of MIMA and the President of AMIM, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ahmad Ramli Haji Mohd Nor, and the chairman of MIGHT, Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali.
Themed Navigating the Wave of Industry 4.0: Towards Attaining Competitiveness, the forum was structured into four sessions: The New Revolution, The Industry’s Response, The Innovation, and The Preparation by Marine Industries to strike in Industry 4.0 (IR4.0). The forum brought together industry players, government officials, researchers and scholars from marine industries in Malaysia to discuss responses to the new challenges of IR 4.0.

MIMA researcher Cdr Ang Chin Hup (R) presented on the adoption of Industry 4.0 in the maritime industry covering the emergence of autonomous shipping, automated container terminals, and smart logistics. He also suggested that players in industries be prepared to face the new wave.

The event attracted much discussion in terms of issues and challenges the new revolution will bring and how they can capitalize on the opportunities arising. Valuable ideas and information on new technologies were exchanged during the sessions.

This NMIF forum series has been jointly hosted by MIMA, MIGHT, AMIM, and RINA-IMarEST and MIMA will continue to contribute towards this endeavour.
