Malaysia’s Green Port Policy

MIMA highlighted Malaysia’s Green Port Policy at the above forum organised by the BIT Group Global Ltd, China Institute of Navigation and China Association of Oceanic Engineering.

With the theme Leading the Blue Economic Development of the Science and Technology, the forum gathered around 20 renowned experts and scholars from China and abroad and 150 participants in relevant fields of ocean sciences. Valuable input and recommendations were presented as speakers shared new ideas and technologies for an innovation-oriented blue economy.

Cdr Ang of MIMA’s Centre for Maritime Economics provided an overview of the development of ports in Malaysia and Southeast Asia and introduced Malaysia’s green port policy which is based on the principles of environment, community engagement, and promoting sustainability. He also highlighted some green port initiatives such as the ballast water management, study of fuel quality of ships in ports, energyand fuel saving and environment protection which have earned Malaysian ports the Green Port Award from APEC Port Services Network.

Other international presenters at the session were from Kazakhstan, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, and Turkey. MIMA wishes to express its appreciation to the organisers of the forum for the opportunity to share Malaysia’s green port policy.
