Nizam is currently Research Fellow and head of the Centre for Coastal and Marine Environment at MIMA. He joined MIMA in December of 1993 as an Analyst after spending nearly three years as a Research Assistant and later Environmental Policy Analyst at the World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWFM). Nizam was trained as an ecologist at the University of Canberra where he also studied environmental policy analysis. Instead of chasing elephants, something which he aspired to as a student, he now pursues policy-makers and administrators with ideas for policy changes and improvements. He is currently
a Member of the National Advisory Council on Marine Parks and Reserves of the
Ministry of Agriculture; Council Member of the Malaysian Society of Marine
Sciences, a non-governmental organisation; and is Vice-Chair of the Regional Task Force on Legal Matters for the
UNEP-GEF Project on Reversing Environmental Degradation Trends in the South
China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. |
