Visits to MISC Bhd, Port Klang Authority and NGV Tech Sdn Bhd
22 July 2010

On the fourth day of the two-week international training course on Strategic Management of the Maritime Sector held exclusively for the officials from CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) countries, MIMA organised a day-trip to MISC Berhad, Port Klang Authority and a shipyard, NGV Tech Sdn Bhd. The trip was an opportunity for the CLMV officials to meet the industry experts and to acquire the know-how to put what they have learned during the lectures into practice.
Prior to that, the training course covered topics on 'The Economic Importance of the Maritime Sector in Socio-Economic Development', 'International Maritime Trade', 'The Malaysian Experience in Managing the Maritime Sector', and 'Overview of Merchant Shipping and Ports Sectors'.

After lunch, the participants visited the Port Klang Authority (PKA). A corporate presentation of PKA's role and duties was shown to the participants. As the port regulator and trade facilitator, PKA's goal is to develop Port Klang as a preferred logistics hub for the region and to explore various measures to boost the ease of doing business in Port Klang, which was ranked as the world's top 14th container port in 2009.
The day ended with a visit to a leading Malaysian shipbuilding company, NGV Tech Sdn Bhd, in Port Klang. After viewing a corporate video presentation, the participants were taken on an extensive tour of the shipyard which proved to be most educational. Over the years, the yard has built and delivered an impressive track record of vessels in steel and aluminium, catering to the very needs of discerning customers from as far away as South America, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia market.
