Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA)

The conference was the sixth such international meeting organised by MIMA since its establishment.  It was officiated by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister who also delivered a Keynote Address at the conference.  The event was attended by nearly 150 delegates from around the world and received extensive media coverage.

In organising such a high-profile conference, MIMA has once again proven its leadership in initiating discussion and providing an international platform for stakeholders to meet and discuss issues pertaining to the Straits of Malacca.  We are proud to note that this 'signature event' of the institute has grown in stature and prominence.  This is evident in the fact that this series of conference has consistently drawn stellar line-ups of speakers and chairpersons (including from MIMA), large numbers of participants and widespread media buzz.  It has emerged as one of the most eagerly anticipated conferences on the Straits of Malacca by many stakeholders of the sealane.

By publishing the Proceedings, MIMA is doing its part to contribute to the growing literature on the Straits and towards better management of this pivotal body of water.  It hopes to continue spearheading policy research on the Straits and being at the forefront of providing an avenue for the stakeholders of this critical sea line of communication to meet regularly.
