E-mail Print PDF

Venue : Putrajaya
Date : 10 August 2010

In realising the ambitious goal of creating high-income activities and becoming a fully developed nation by 2020, Malaysia must adopt green technology and innovation to ensure that development does not come at the expense of the environment.

As Mother Earth reels from various adverse impacts arising from unsustainable use of resources, nations are leaving huge tracks of carbon footprints and emitting harmful gases into the environment.  Awareness is growing for us to take better care of the earth, but much more needs to be done to protect it from the harmful effects of our actions and rapacious needs for the earth's resources.

To this end, the Malaysian government has crafted a National Green Technology Policy (NGTP) to act as a driver to accelerate the economy and promote sustainable development in the country.  Launched in July 2009, the NGTP aims to inter alia reduce energy usage rate while at the same time promote economic growth, increase national capacity and capability to promote green technology industry, and enhance public awareness of green technology and promote its widespread use.  'Green technology' entails the development of products and solutions to conserve the natural environment and resources to minimise or reduce the impact of human activities.
